An Invitation to Volunteer: Specific Roles We Need to Fill at Fire and Water
By Webmaster | 29th July 2025
Fire and Water is a community-run venue in Sowerby Bridge, and as such, it relies on the support and involvement of volunteers to operate. Every event we host and every project we undertake is made possible by people who generously contribute their time and skills.
We are currently looking to fill several specific and essential volunteer roles. If you have been considering getting involved, we hope this list will help you see where you might best fit in. Your contribution, no matter the role, is vital to our continued success.
Here are the roles we currently need help with:
Bar Staff for Events
This role involves working shifts on our bar during live events. Responsibilities include serving a range of drinks and handling payments. It’s a social role that puts you at the centre of our events, interacting directly with guests. We provide all necessary training, so no previous bar experience is required. This is an ideal role for anyone who enjoys the atmosphere of live events and likes interacting with people.
Cleaning and Event Setup
To ensure our venue is always a welcoming and pleasant space, we need help with general cleaning and setup tasks before and after events. This can include arranging chairs, tidying public areas, and ensuring facilities are clean. This is a crucial, practical role that directly contributes to the positive experience of everyone who visits Fire and Water. It offers flexible hours and is a great way to help behind the scenes.
Entertainments Committee Member
Our Entertainments Committee is responsible for planning and programming the events calendar for the venue. This involves discussing ideas for future events, identifying potential performers and artists, and helping to shape the overall creative direction of Fire and Water. We are looking for people with an interest in local arts and culture to join the discussion and contribute their ideas.
Fundraising Support
As a community-run organisation, fundraising is essential for our sustainability. We are looking for volunteers to help plan and carry out fundraising activities. This could involve organising raffles, helping to run specific fundraising events, or contributing ideas for new income streams. This role is key to securing the financial future of the venue.
Volunteer Bookkeeper (VAT Returns)
We have a specific need for a volunteer with bookkeeping skills to complete our monthly VAT returns. The role requires experience with SAGE accounting software and a clear understanding of the VAT process. This is a vital administrative function that ensures our financial compliance. The role requires only a few hours per month and can be done with some flexibility. Your professional skills would be a significant asset to our operation.
How to Get Involved
olunteering is a rewarding way to support a local community asset, meet new people, and become more involved in the local arts scene. Every contribution of time helps us to continue our work.
If you are interested in any of these roles or would like to discuss how you could help in a different capacity, we would be very pleased to hear from you. Please drop us an email at
